Joan Smith
When a committee commissioned by the Children's Aid Society of
London surveyed the needs of troubled children in the community in
1964, the development of a residential treatment program became its
first priority.
Joan Smith chaired this committee and subsequently was the first
President of the Board of the agency that was eventually to be
named Madame Vanier Children's Services.
Joan later became Board President of the London Children's Aid
Society, London Catholic School Services, London City Councillor,
and Solicitor General of Ontario. The London community is indeed
indebted to Joan for her significant contributions. We, at Vanier,
are proud of our long-standing association with Joan.
