"It sounds selfish… but, I like the feeling I get when I volunteer with children... they make me happy."

These are just some of the reasons why some people volunteer with the children at Vanier. Below are reasons why you may choose a volunteer position at Vanier.

By volunteering …

you are actively working to provide resources to better your own community

you are helping children improve their skills both socially and academically

you are able to develop new skills

you are able to practice learned skills

you are gaining experience that will assist you in either choosing a career, or moving forward in one

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at Vanier. You could…

be a one-to-one buddy for a child, by providing a child with some individualized attention on a social and recreational level. This may include playing games, doing arts and crafts, going for walks or bike rides.

be a tutor for a child by, assisting a child with their reading, writing, math or French outside of school hours.

be a classroom assistant by, providing support, assistance and instruction to students in the classroom.

be a child supervisor or group leader by, supervising and providing activities for children while their parents are in treatment sessions.

utilize your special skills by, providing assistance in the clinical program if you have a specialized skill i.e., social worker, art therapist.

help with fund-raising by, assisting in the organization and administration of fund-raising activities or special events.

So, if you have 2 to 4 hours a week available and would like to support the children we work with, we would like to hear from you.
